Junior Development: Summer Camp

Camp Philosophy

This is a developmental program specifically geared towards the younger athletes in our community. Our objective is to familiarize each athlete with the basic fundamentals of track and field in a fun and motivating environment. The emphasis of our camp will be on the personal growth of each individual. Instruction will be centered round the principles of motor development and body awareness with sessions on strength, speed, technique and endurance which are necessary tools for athletes in any sport. We will encourage each athlete’s focus to be placed on achieving personal best performances and not on the competitive nature of the sport. Over the duration of the camp, the level of fitness of each individual will increase along with their technical skills in running, jumping, and throwing events.

Camp Overview

We will be using the “Run, Jump, Throw” National Youth Development Program. This program has been designed by Athletics Canada to teach the fundamentals of running, jumping and throwing movement skills through the sport of track & field, to give young athletes a strong foundation for success in all sports and physical activities.

Instructors

Our coaching instructors are club coaches, teachers, and senior athletes with the St. Thomas Legion Track & Field Club. Our instructors have had experience not only with track & field but have also been chosen for their extensive work with supervising and teaching younger children in previous camp environments.

The club's head coach, Harry Stantsos, will be working directly with our camp instructors throughout the camp to provide quality instruction and implementation of our track & field program.
